“… and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful” (Mark 4:19). “Other things” may very well be wonderful and enjoyable with absolutely nothing wrong or sinful about them. They may even include involvement in ministry related “things.” 

The point is NOT the difference between godly and ungodly things but of how much desire do we have for them versus a desire for the Word itself, for spending personal, private time with the WORD Himself as His Holy Spirit waters and nourishes the garden of our hearts? The ingested Word is the “rain” that keeps drought from our spiritual crops that are meant to produce fruit for His Kingdom. How well are we watering our gardens with the “Living Water?”
