“Buy the truth and do not sell it; get wisdom, discipline and understanding” (Proverbs 23:23).

As I read this verse for perhaps the 1000th time I felt just as perplexed as the 999 readings prior. How DO I ‘buy the truth?’ And then the shadows in which this verse had been hiding dispelled in the most explosive of lights. I ‘buy the truth’ when I walk in obedience to God’s Word and will and the promptings of His Holy Spirit. And I ‘sell it’ when I’m disobedient and walk in my own will.

The second part then becomes a reality as we ‘buy the truth.’ As we gain wisdom and understanding, that middle word discipline has not only become the route by which it is delivered, but it has also fashioned into us a disciplined lifestyle.

Just the opposite becomes true when we ‘sell it.’ There is no wisdom or understanding and definitely no disciplined lifestyle that brings honor or glory to our God.

Two choices:           Buy or sell. Which will I choose throughout my day? Which will you choose?
